Corporate History

The Soaltee Kathmandu, established in 1965 and inaugurated on November 25, 1966, by the Late His Majesty King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, stands as a testament to Nepal’s legacy of luxury and hospitality. As one of the first five-star hotels in the country, it played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s tourism industry, which began its journey in the 1950s. From its inception, The Soaltee Kathmandu has been committed to excellence, setting the standard for service and opulence. Originally featuring 104 rooms, the hotel has expanded over the years to encompass 282 elegantly appointed guest rooms and seven grand VVIP suites, spread across 12 acres of lush property. This iconic establishment continues to be synonymous with unparalleled luxury, embodying the spirit of hospitality that has defined Nepal for decades.

1966

Hotel Inauguration

Soaltee Hotel debuts as a luxury establishment with 104 rooms, marking the beginning of a legacy in Nepali hospitality.

1969

Oberoi Partnership

Soaltee Hotel incorporated as a Private Limited Company with Oberoi Hotels Private Limited investment. The hotel was rebranded as Hotel Soaltee Oberoi, marking Oberoi Hotels' first international venture outside India.

1975

Public Limited Company & Airline Catering

The company transformed into a Public Limited Company, receiving investments from Nepal Industrial Development Corporation (NIDC), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), and company promoters. During this period, the company also launched its airline catering services, which now operates as LSG Sky Chefs.

1978

IFC Investment

Soaltee Hotel Limited achieved a significant milestone as the first Nepali company to secure financing from International Finance Corporation (IFC). The partnership deepened with IFC acquiring a 14% equity stake, representing their first investment in Nepal's private sector.

1981

Expansion

The hotel underwent major expansion with the completion of the new Himalayan Wing, adding 180 guestrooms and bringing the total room capacity to 282.

1987

SAARC Summit

Hotel Soaltee Oberoi hosted the delegates of the third SAARC Summit in Kathmandu, a prestigious moment as Nepal's first time hosting the summit.

1993

Stock Exchange Listing

The company pioneered as the first hotel in Nepal to list its shares on the Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) under the code "SHL". This milestone, accompanied by NIDC's divestment through public offering, opened doors for public participation in the company's growth journey.

1994

IHG Partnership

A new chapter began as the hotel was renamed Soaltee Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Kathmandu, following management takeover by Holiday Inns (China) Limited, a subsidiary of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

1996

Joint Venture

HI Soaltee Hotel Company Private Limited was established as a subsidiary through a joint venture with Holiday Inns Investment (Nepal) Limited, Hong Kong, a subsidiary of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

1998

Infrastructure Enhancement

The hotel rebranded as Soaltee Crowne Plaza and expanded its facilities with a spacious 6,270 square feet conference hall and a separate casino complex.

2001

Ownership Changes

IFC completed its divestment of equity in Soaltee Hotel, with shares acquired by Holiday Inns Investment (Nepal) Limited, Hong Kong, a subsidiary of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

2011

Domestic Ownership

Oberoi Hotels Private Limited sold its entire stake in Soaltee Crowne Plaza to Sibkrim Land and Industrial Company Private Limited, a company of NE Group, strengthening domestic ownership.

2014

Strategic Growth

Soaltee Hospitality Limited was incorporated as a fully owned subsidiary of Soaltee Hotel Limited, with the vision to invest and operate hotels throughout the country.

2016

Golden Jubilee

On November 25th, Soaltee Hotel Limited celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of excellence in hospitality services.

2021

Independent Brand

On May 15th, the hotel embraced its identity as a homegrown Nepali brand, rebranding as The Soaltee Kathmandu upon completion of its contract with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

2022

Brand Expansion

Soaltee started its expansion of brands under the current management, with hotels and resorts under the brand The Soaltee Hotels and Resorts in different parts of Nepal and vision to expand beyond the country.
